RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA (CBS) — A sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a suspect Saturday in Rancho Santa Margarita, according to authorities.

KNX 1070’s Kim Marriner Reports

The deputy-involved shooting occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the 32000 block of Meadow Park Lane.

Jason Park of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department says the deputy was attempting to stop a speeding motorcyclist when the incident began.

Park said the deputy recognized the motorcycle and the rider and went to a residence believed to be the suspect’s home.

The deputy made contact with the suspect and the deputy-involved shooting occurred after they reportedly scuffled.

The suspect, who was struck, was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown.

The shooting remained under investigation.

The name and age of the suspect was unavailable.
