Artist Michael Heizer's 340-Ton Boulder Arrives At LACMA

MIRACLE MILE (CBS) — A 340-ton boulder rolled into the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Saturday completing an 11-night, 105-mile journey.

The massive rock, which is expected to be part of artist Michael Heizer's "Levitated Mass" exhibit, began its travels from a quarry in Riverside County on Feb. 28.

Louisa Hodge, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, talked with spectators outside the museum who had been following the rock's journey.

"We've been up all night… we've been following the rock from Adams and Western all the way over here," one person told Hodge.

"I will never take this night for granite as long as I live," another person said.

Beginning Monday, officials say they will begin the process of lifting the rock to place it in its new location.

KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reports that the exhibit is expected to open this summer.
