Registered Sex Offender Allegedly Rapes Boy, 13, Inside Tustin Library

TUSTIN (CBS) — Police say a registered sex offender has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenage boy inside an Orange County library.

Robert Claudio, 23, reportedly approached a 13-year-old boy who was studying inside. The registered sex offender allegedly lured the boy into the men's restroom and sodomized him in one of the stalls.

The victim then ran across the street to the police department and reported the crime.

Meanwhile, Claudio reportedly approached a police officer on the street.

Lt. Pat Welch told CBS2, "The suspect actually approached the civilian officer and identified himself as a registered sex offender. He said something had just occurred in the library and that he may be involved in it."

Authorities took Claudio into custody and the victim identified him in a line-up.

The victim was then taken to the hospital to treat his injuries.

Claudio will be booked on suspicion of sodomy of a minor and committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, Welch said.

Claudio does not appear on the Megan's Law website because the sex crimes he committed happened when he was a juvenile.

Investigators said they believe the Anaheim resident has assaulted other children. They urge anyone with information to contact police.
