Long Beach State Crushes Davis In Big West Quarterfinals

ANAHEIM (AP) — Eugene Phelps scored 18 points, surpassing 1,000 for his career, as Long Beach State beat UC Davis 80-46 Thursday night in the first round of the Big West tournament.

The top-seeded 49ers (23-8) advance to the semifinals Friday against seventh-seeded UC Irvine, which upset No. 2 seed Cal State Fullerton 65-59 earlier Thursday.

Phelps, a senior, became the 22nd player in school history with 1,000 points and now has 1,015 in his career.

T.J. Robinson added 12 points for the 49ers, while James Ennis, Casper Ware and Peter Pappageorge had 11 each.

Eddie Miller had 17 points for UC Davis (5-26), which lost by 20 and 28 points to Long Beach earlier in the season.

Larry Anderson, the Big West defensive player of the year, did not play for the 49ers after spraining his right knee in the final regular-season game against Cal State Fullerton.
