Israeli President Shimon Peres Visits Southern California

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Israeli President Shimon Peres begins a four-day visit to the Southland Thursday.

Shimon is expected to attend a forum in Beverly Hills and visit Dreamworks Animation.

He wrapped up a tour of Northern California Wednesday, speaking before a crowd of 2,000 in San Francisco.

After attending the opening of a conference on technology earlier in the day, the 88-year-old statesman talked about an apparent nuclear threat from Iran, which has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.

"Iran is the only country on earth that calls for the destruction of Israel; that denies the Holocaust. We have to overcome this danger and overcome it as soon as possible," he said Wednesday.

Shimon also received a warm welcome from Gov. Jerry Brown and the mayor of San Francisco, who presented him with a ceremonial key to the city.
