TEMPLE CITY (AP) — El Monte police have shot and critically wounded a suspect during a chase that ended with a truck hitting a house.

Police say they received a call Monday night that a U-Haul truck had been tampered with and was being unloaded by crooks. A police helicopter flew to the scene and saw two men drive away.

Police chased the fleeing truck into a cul-de-sac in neighboring Temple City, where the passenger got out and was arrested. Police say the driver then turned the truck around and drove at a high rate of speed toward an officer, who shot at the vehicle. Two other officers also opened fire.

Police say the vehicle jumped the curb and struck a house. Nobody in the home was hurt and no officers were wounded.
