FULLERTON (AP) — D.J. Seeley scored 27 points, including 5 of 6 on 3-pointers, and Cal State Fullerton nipped Long Beach State 77-74 on Saturday night to spoil the 49ers bid for an undefeated conference record.
With the win, Cal State Fullerton (21-8, 12-4 Big West) likely clinches the No. 2 seed in the impending conference tournament. The Titans survived a back-and-forth game for the win. Overall, there were 11 ties and 13 lead changes in the game.
The Titans led by eight with 16:07 remaining, but the 49ers (22-8, 15-1) roared back to lead by seven with just under nine minutes left before they began to falter. Cal State Fullerton won despite going the final 2:29 without a field goal.
Isiah Umipig scored 16 points for the Titans while Omondi Amoke and Orane Chin hauled in double-digit rebounds with 13 and 10, respectively.
Mike Caffey led the 49ers with 20 points.
