IKEA To Roll Out Prefab Homes For Just $80K

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — In the market for a new home? How about a brand new abode for just under $100,000?

Swedish furniture giant IKEA will soon be rolling out pre-fab home kits starting ranging from $80,000 to $86,000.

The Aktiv is a 745 square foot home that features a kitchen, dining room, living room, one bedroom and one bath. The pre-assembled homes also have Eco-friendly appliances and materials.

While the home may be cheap, buyers still need to purchase the land for the house, pay for permits, a foundation, hire electricians and plumbers and any other help one may need.

Okay, how is this even news? Sears sold small home kits like that all the way back into the 1800’s. Now IKEA is doing it. Big deal.

  • Chuey

Yeah..but did SEARS homes come with an order of meatballs?

  • Roy

Why pay 80K when you can by a relatively new Manufactured home already set up in a Manufactured home park, 3 bedrooms, 2 bath with whirpool 1200 sq ft – 1500 sq ft for under 80K. Does not make sense.
