LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The FBI believes a man accused of abusing two young children in Boston in 1993 may be in Los Angeles.
John Joseph Hartin, 42, has been a fugitive for nearly 18 years after being charged in 1993 with five counts of statutory rape of a child. Hartin allegedly abused two young boys, ages 8 and 9, after befriending them in the Boston, Mass. area.
“John Hartin has been on the run for 18 years, much too long for the victims of his alleged crimes,” Special Agent Kristina Norris said in a statement.
Hartin worked as a security guard at the time of his disappearance, and also studied graphic and computer arts in college. He was a lifelong Dorchester, Mass. resident until he fled, according to the FBI.
At the time of his disappearance, Hartin weighed 200 pounds and had brown hair and brown eyes.
The FBI says Hartin should be considered armed and dangerous.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered by the FBI for information leading to Hartin’s arrest.
