Dunkin' Donuts To Open Calif. Store At Camp Pendleton

PENDLETON (CBS) — Could Dunkin' Donuts be landing in Southern California?

The lucky marines and their families stationed at Camp Pendleton will be the first to welcome the coffee and donut chain back to the Golden state, according to the company.

"Dunkin' Donuts is delighted to open on Camp Pendleton in Southern California this Spring," Michelle King, Director of Global Public Relations of Dunkin' Brands said. An exact date was not given.

The MCCS Camp Pendleton  Facebook page is already recruiting workers: "Need a Job? Dunkin' Donuts is coming to the new Camp Pendleton MCX! Want to be a part of the 1st Dunkin' in CA? Looking to hire Management positions!"

The job posting went up Tuesday.

"We are honored and excited about the opportunity to serve the 64,000 people who live, work and train at the military base and look forward to keeping the Marines running on Dunkin' with our coffee and snacks," said King.

But while the news is exciting for Camp Pendleton, don't expect a Dunkin' Donuts to be on every SoCal corner.

"We have no plans to open additional restaurants in California at this time, Dunkin' Donuts is moving westward, with focus on disciplined development in contiguous markets that are adjacent to our existing base in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas," King told CBS2.

In the late 1990s, there were approximately 15 Dunkin' Donuts stores open in California that later closed "because the time wasn't right for the brand and the infrastructure didn't exist to growth and expand in the state," said King.
