DOWNEY (CBS) — Police began a pursuit Wednesday evening on the northbound 710 Freeway.

It was unclear what the motorist, driving a flatbed truck, was wanted for.

The suspect bailed after about 20 minutes.

Derek Bell, reporting overhead in Sky9, said the suspect pulled over on a dirt road and fled the truck.

The suspect’s vehicle struck a black-and-white squad car and police said the motorist would be cited for assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.

Bell said after the vehicles collided, the suspect’s vehicle apparently lost a front headlight.

The suspect, trying to evade officers, ended up straddling river banks and running through a wash.

After about ten minutes running and evading, officers confronted the suspect and apprehended him and took him into custody without incident.
