Police Name Person Of Interest In Mother, Daughter Murder At Redondo Beach Apartment Complex

REDONDO BEACH (CBS) — Police have named a person of interest in the murder of a mother and teenage daughter found dead Tuesday morning in a South Bay apartment.

Officials said they are looking for Jonathan Scott Chacon. He was described as 5-foot-seven-inches and 160 pounds. Chacon was thought to be driving a black 1996 convertible Mustang with California license plates 6CQF458. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police said Chacon was dating one of the victims.

"I think it's sad, it's crazy. This is not an area where you would see that happening," said nearby resident Selina Pedilla, who said the younger woman killed is a 19-year-old senior at Redondo Union High School. "Everyone was saying that she was a nice girl. I don't think she had any problems."

A concerned co-worker of one of the victims initially discovered the bodies and called police at about 10:15 a.m.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1900 block of Rockefeller Lane and found the bodies of two adult females lying on the floor in the unit, Redondo Beach police said.

Authorities did not indicate whether a weapon was used but they said they believe the women were victims of foul play.

"I took a walk this morning -- I did see blood on the street but I didn't know at that point that it was blood," neighbor Amy Sidrane said. "It's creepy, it's awful, it's scary."

The murders have caused alarm among neighbors who are wondering whether these women were targeted or if the suspect will strike again.

"Our concern is if there is someone out there that we need to be aware of or if it's a known act of violence, whether it's a known person to the victims," neighbor Laurie Lara said. "Once we know that it will help."

The women's identities were not released.

Anyone with information about Chacon was asked to call the Redondo Beach Police Department.
