Teacher Charged With Kissing, Hugging 14-Year-Old Girl

SANTA ANA (CBS) — An English teacher for an Anaheim Hills charter school was charged Friday with kissing and hugging a 14-year-old female student, a prosecutor said.

Joshua Alexander Evans, 32, of Fullerton, was arrested at home Thursday, according to Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office reported he was being held on $100,000 bail, but according to jail records it was set at $20,000.

Evans has been placed on administrative leave from his teaching job at El Rancho Charter School in Anaheim Hills, Rodriguez said.

Between December of last year and January, Evans developed a relationship with one of his students that included the two exchanging text messages, emails and playing a game together through their cellphones, Rodriguez said.

Evans allegedly met with the girl at another student's home at least three separate times, Rodriguez said.

"On two occasions they basically made out and hugged," Rodriguez alleged.

The girl's mother reported the relationship to school officials, who called Anaheim police, Rodriguez said.

Evans, who faces up to three years and eight months in state prison if convicted, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
