LA School Chief Orders Staff To Submit Reports Of Teacher Misconduct To State Credentialing Board

LOS ANGELES (AP) —  Los Angeles schools chief John Deasy has ordered his staff to submit or resubmit reports of teacher misconduct to a state credentialing board in the wake of news that at least two such reports had fallen through the cracks.

School district spokesman Tom Waldman says Deasy's order Wednesday is intended as a preventative measure.

Waldman didn't have a firm figure on how many reports would need to be submitted in all, saying hundreds of complaints dating back to 2008 will be included.

One substitute teacher accused of sexual misconduct didn't have reports on file with the state Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

The district also was late in filing a report on Mark Berndt, who has been charged with 23 counts of lewd conduct involving students at Miramonte Elementary School.
