2 Men Killed In Separate Pedestrian Crashes In Downey

DOWNEY (CBS) — Police say two men were killed just blocks and hours apart in separate pedestrian crashes as they tried to cross streets in Downey.

In the first incident, a man was struck by a truck just before 8 p.m. Tuesday the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard, Downey Police Sgt. Kevin McCaster said. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The second accident happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Woodruff Avenue just north of Foster Road, when a man was struck by a car as he tried to cross in the middle of the block, Downey police Lt. Leslie Murray said. He was also pronounced dead at a hospital.

The identities of both men were being withheld pending family notifications, Murray said, and both incidents are under investigation.
