Skydiver, 35, Killed In Accident During Competition In Perris

PERRIS (CBS) —  A San Diego resident was killed Saturday during a parachuting accident in Perris, according to the coroner's office.

Sean Carey, 35, was performing a solo maneuver at the Perris Valley Skydiving facility when he crashed at about 9:10 a.m., said a sheriff's department spokesman.

Carey was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where the coroner pronounced him dead of his injuries at 9:52 a.m.

The accident occurred during a competition, according to authorities.

It was the sixth fatality at the Perris Valley facility since the start of 2011, according to The Press-Enterprise.

In December, an experienced 32-year-old Canadian skydiver died from a hard landing at Perris Valley. Earlier last year, four people died and one person was seriously injured in three separate skydiving incidents at the airport.
