Man, 21, Killed After Power Pole Topples Onto His Car

CITY TERRACE (CBS) — A 21-year-old driver who crashed into a power pole that fell on his car was fatally injured Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident on Eastern Avenue at Folsom Street in City Terrace was reported at 1:03 a.m., and first-responders declared him dead on the spot, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The motorist, a Los Angeles resident, was driving a 1985 Honda Civic, according to the CHP.

Authorities notified Southern California Edison to cut electricity to the affected lines while repairs were made, Kimball said.

A coroner's spokeswoman said the man's name was being withheld, because his next of kin had yet to be notified of his death as of about 7 a.m.
