South LA Mother Held On $1.5M In Drowning Death of Daughter

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A South Los Angeles mother accused of deliberately drowning her daughters in a bathtub has been booked for murder.

Lorne Valle, 32, was booked for murder in the death of her 1-year-old daughter, Lindsay Taque, and attempted murder in the the near drowning of her unidentified 5-year-old daughter.

The drownings took place at a home in the 900 block of West 50th Place around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles Police said.

When firefighters arrived, they found two girls unconscious and not breathing.

The girls' father called 911 after he found the girls unconscious in the home, police said.

"The girls' father was home, and he heard noises from the bathroom, and when he went in, it appeared that the mother was trying to drown the children," LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith.

The two girls were transported to California Hospital Medical Center where officials said both children arrived with no vital signs.

The 1-year-old died at California Hospital, according to medical officials. Her 5-year-old sister was transported to Children's Hospital where she was listed Thursday in serious but stable condition, an LAPD official said.

Valle is being held on $1.5 million bail.

Neighbors say she was suicidal in the weeks leading up to Wednesday's drowning.
