2 Dead, 3 Hospitalized After Shooting, Fire In East Hollywood Home

HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Authorities say two people are dead -- including the gunman -- and three are hospitalized after a shooting and fire in a house Thursday afternoon in a case of suspected domestic violence.

Officials responded to a structure fire call around 12:40 p.m. that included multiple shooting victims at a home in the 500 block of N. Harvard Boulevard, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

"Officers made entry, an area of the house was already in flames . . . they extricated three victims with the help of a firefighter," Andy Nieman of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Paramedics treated two 38-year-old women and a 34-year-old man who were taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence said.

It is unclear how the fire began or what prompted the shooting.

Police have identified the male shooter, but are not releasing his name, Nieman said. Authorities believe the suspect is an acquaintance of the victims and has an address in the area.

Firefighters and police are being kept on heightened alert, officials said.

Officials say the gunman is dead. Initial reports said the gunman was on the loose.

Fire officials opted to let the blaze burn itself out. The fire was finally extinguished around 2:15 p.m.
