Orange County Bakery Serves Up A Sugar Cookie Worthy Of A President

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — President Obama has clearly cast his vote for his favorite sugar cookie.

For the third time, the President (or his peeps) placed a huge order for the iced sugar cookie from the Wonderland Bakery in Newport Beach. (The first order: thousands for an Inaugural gala. The second order? An unspecified number for a presidential committee meeting on arts and humanities.)

Quite an impressive achievement for chef and founder Allyson Ames, 25. (Get it, Allyson-Wonderland?)

Michele Gile, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said the call came in for the latest order early Valentine's day morning.

Could the bakery deliver 200 of the iced (with French vanilla) sugar cookies -- with presidential seals, natch -- for a fundraiser held Thursday in Corona del Mar?

Says Ames, "Of course, when the president calls and asks for a big cookie order, you don't say no."

Even if it meant a little last-minute scrambling. "So we stopped everything we were doing. All of our staff had to re-arrange their Valentine's day plans," Ames explains, "It's an amazing honor to be doing a third event for the president."

Ames herself pitched in to help out with frosting, decorating and wrapping the confections. The cookies are to be served at a $35,000 plate dinner/fundraiser.

But, Gile reports, if that is a little steep for your wallet, you can go into the bakery and order one of the cookies for $7.95 for the rest of this month.
