Mexican Judge Orders Beresford-Redman To Stand Trial In His Wife's Murder

CANCUN, Mexico (CBS) — A Mexican judge has ordered former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman to stand trial in the murder of his wife.

Prosecutors say a judge ruled that there is enough evidence to try Beresford-Redman, who arrived in Cancun Feb. 8, in the 2010 death of his wife, Monica.

"It was a relief. We have been waiting for that for two years," Carla Burgos, the victim's sister, said last week. "It has been hell. It has been so difficult."

Prosecutors say Beresford-Redman lured his wife to Mexico to patch up their failing marriage. After her murder, he left Mexico with the couple's two children.

He was in U.S. federal custody for more than a year, before deciding not to fight extradition.

"He is presumed guilty until proven innocent, which is a stark difference from American law. He'll get a lawyer, a Mexican lawyer and he'll probably have an American lawyer there, too," CBS2 legal analyst Steve Meister said.
