90-Year-Old Woman Hits 3 Family Members, Crashes Into Tree

ORANGE (CBS) — A 90-year-old Orange County woman, who had been asked by her son to give up her driver's license, ran over a family of three Tuesday in Fullerton.

"When I saw the little boy on the floor, he was screaming so bad," a witness said.

A mother, her 9-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were walking home from school in the middle of a cross walk when Florence Goheen plowed into them.

Goheen continued to drive up the street before plowing into a palm tree.

The accident happened in at the corner of Rolling and Puente just after 3:30 p.m.

"It's devastating," said neighbor Mary Reece, who called 911.

"She was awake, but she wasn't, she appeared confused," said Reece, who waited with Goheen until paramedics arrived.

She said Goheen asked her if she hurt anyone.

Goheen's son John, 63, said that she did not have any health challenges and was not on any medication.

"She has a problem walking, because of a problem with a broken hip," John said, adding that he did have concerns about his mother's driving.

"Every time, every day for the last 10 years," he said.

Goheen remained in the hospital Tuesday night listed in critical condition.

The three family members were in stable condition.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
