3 Family Members Arrested For Allegedly Staging Cockfights In Jurupa Valley

JURUPA VALLEY (CBS) —  Deputies arrested a Jurupa Valley man, his brother and his son on suspicion of animal cruelty and illegal gambling after finding evidence of cockfighting at the man's residence, according to a sheriff's department spokesman.

The homeowner, Martin Lujano Ruezga, 47, his son, Miguel Angel Ruezga, 25, and his brother, Filiberto Ruezga, 62, were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, sheriff's Sgt. Ralph Rico said.

At about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies served a search warrant in the 4000 block of Kenneth Street in Jurupa Valley.

"The search warrant was served as a result of an investigation regarding illegal cockfighting and gambling at a residential area on a half-acre lot," Rico said.

Deputies found evidence of cockfighting and seized more than $14,000 in connection with the illegal gambling, Rico said.

Martin Ruezga was ordered to demolish and remove all non-permitted structures at the residence, he said.
