Hollywood Man, 26, Gets 30 Years To Life For Beating Death Of Father, 62

WEST COVINA (CBS) — A 26-year-old Hollywood man was sentenced Friday to 30 years to life in prison for the beating death of his 62-year-old father in 2010.

Jonathan Martin Pedraza was convicted of first-degree murder last Friday and sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho.

Jurors found Pedraza used a dumbbell in the commission of the crime. After beating his father to death, Pedraza then put the man's body in a storage locker in Irwindale. The deputy District Attorney -- Stacy Okun-Wiese -- said Pedraza hit his father with the weight at least five times, causing a fractured skull and at least 10 lacerations.

Pedraza was also found guilty of a felony count of vandalism and two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run driving.

Irwindale police discovered the body after Pedraza crashed his vehicle through an exit gate at the storage facility. He was arrested in Baldwin Park after colliding into two vehicles.
