Community Raises $72K To Help Bring Home Teen Critically Injured In Crash

LAKE FOREST (CBS) — A teenager critically injured in a single-car crash in Trabuco Canyon is finally back home with family and friends.

Jimmy Pequeno, 18, suffered a fractured skull, collapsed lung, broken shoulder, jaw and leg and a temporal bone that went through his ear canal. Immediately following the accident, he was in a coma for a month, and since the crash on July 1, he has undergone 10 surgeries.

With the tremendous effort of El Toro High students, Jimmy's football and wrestling teammates, his girlfriend and the community, Jimmy is returning home to a space that will allow his mother and father, Angela and Rob Pequeno, to care for him at home. The fundraising efforts raised $72,000, all to help equip a hospital room for Jimmy.

The ultimate goal was to raise $100,000.

Contributions can still be made to the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs.
