LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Opening statements begin Monday in the murder trial of a former Los Angeles Police detective who is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend’s wife.
Stephanie Lazarus, now 51, is charged in the 1986 murder of Sherri Rasmussen, who was shot to death in Van Nuys.
According to prosecutors, DNA from a bite wound and broken fingernails at the crime scene linked Lazarus to the murder 23 years later.
Lazarus was arrested in June 2009.
Judge Robert J. Perry told the jury panel consisting of eight women and four men to be ready for opening statements on Monday.
