2nd LAUSD Teacher Removed From School Linked To Classroom Bondage Photos

UPDATE 2:26 P.M.: The Miramonte Elementary School teacher who was arrested has been identified as Martin Bernard Springer, 49, of Alhambra, a sheriff's spokesman said on Friday .

Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker says Springer has been booked on suspicion of lewd acts on a child and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. He says the allegations involve two girls who were allegedly fondled in a classroom.

Both girls were about 7 years old, and the alleged abuse occurred during the past three years, he says.

UPDATE 11:21 A.M.: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirms a second teacher from Miramonte Elementary has been arrested. The name of the newly arrested teacher and details of the allegations were not immediately released. Sheriff's officials planned a 1 p.m. news conference to release details.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles Unified school district has removed a second teacher in connection with their investigation into an elementary school teacher accused of taking lewd photos of his students, a sheriff's spokesman said Friday.

The teacher was removed from contact with children at Miramonte Elementary School in the wake of unidentified accusations against him, Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told KNX 1070.

"We are aware that the Los Angeles Unified school district has indeed removed a teacher from the classroom and the L.A. County Sheriff's Department Special Victims Bureau is investigating," Whitmore said.

He added the department expected more potential victims and suspects to come forward as new information was released.

"The important thing is to vet it all, and Sheriff Baca has dedicated the necessary resources to that," Whitmore added.

A sheriff's investigator said the second teacher has not been arrested or charged.

While he would not reveal details, LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy told KNX 1070 he will work with state lawmakers to expedite the process of removing any teachers involved in the abuse scandal centered around 30-year LAUSD veteran teacher Mark Berndt.

"The fact that an ultimate panel with an administrative law judge is outside the purview of the Board of Education who's charged with how to run the system, that makes no sense whatsoever," said Deasy.

The district's top official said he will work to make sure any teachers convicted of a crime do not receive their pensions.

"When the district believes it has evidence of criminal or heinous acts, the employee must be paid while being investigated," Deasy said.

Another teacher at Hamilton High School, Vance Miller, 59, was pulled from his position in 2010, before Deasy became superintendent, the Associated Press reported.

Berndt was arrested this week on charges of lewd conduct with 23 students.
