19-Year-Old Temecula Man Held For Allegedly Stabbing Woman Repeatedly In Unprovoked Attack

TEMECULA (CBS) —  A 19-year-old Temecula man was behind bars Friday for allegedly stabbing a woman repeatedly in an unprovoked attack.

Kurt Alexander Smallen was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

Smallen allegedly stabbed the woman in a field near Calle Pina Colada and Via Norte, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Smallen was being held held in lieu of $5 million bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

The victim, whose identity was not released, encountered Smallen about 3:30 p.m. as she was walking in a community known as Meadowview.

Smallen allegedly attacked the woman for no reason, stabbing her in the back and torso multiple times, sheriff's Sgt. Greg Negron said.

"There is no connection between the suspect and victim," he said.

The suspect fled the scene, but witnesses followed him and pointed out his location to deputies who had arrived and arrested Smallen without incident, according to the sergeant.

The victim underwent surgery at a hospital. She is in stable condition, Negron said.
