'Sour Grapes Gone Ballistic': WeHo Mayor Explodes After Candidate Loses Vote

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A case of political sour grapes turned ugly in West Hollywood — and it was all caught on camera.

Mayor John Duran was seen screaming at members of the West Hollywood-Beverly Hills Democratic Club after the candidate he supported for the state Assembly failed to garner the club's endorsement.

Duran interrupted the announcement that candidate Torie Osborn had won the endorsement when he shouted, "We're not going to work for you, Torie".

Duran continued yelling and even used profanity as he made his way out of the room.

"I used the 'BS' word, but I was really upset and angry not at the outcome, but in the way in which the process occurred," said Duran.

Osborn said she was taken aback by the outburst.

"I was a little surprised at the level of sour grapes gone ballistic," she said. "His candidate lost, I won."

Lillian Raffel, the president of the Democratic Club, said the win was largely the result of an influx of new members, some living outside of the club's district.

Duran contends that those new members were supporters of Osborn and only joined to sway the vote -- a move that is not specifically prevented in the club's rules.
