Somali Pirates Kidnap Surfing Journalist From Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBS) — Acclaimed surfing journalist Michael Scott Moore has been kidnapped by Somali pirates.

Moore, who was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, was researching for a book about piracy when he was abducted by at least a dozen men in two SUVs Saturday.

The armed kidnappers, who reportedly took him to a village on the Indian Ocean, are now demanding ransom for his release.

Moore wrote "Sweetness and Blood", a critically acclaimed book on surfing history, two years ago.

There is no word on his condition.
