Redondo Beach Fire Station Hoping To Win Kitchen Makeover

REDONDO BEACH (CBS) — Redondo Beach Fire Station #1 is one of five finalists vying to win a $25,000 firehouse kitchen remodel. It's all part of a voting-based contest called Rescue Remodel.

Firefighters at the station told CBS2's Kristine Lazar that the firehouse's kitchen hasn't been redone since the 1950s but say they set aside extra money two years in a row to fix up the dilapidated kitchen.

The first year, the roof leaked and they needed to put the money toward repairs.

The second time, they made the decision to purchase life-saving equipment for paramedics... and then the roof leaked again!

"Every time we try to set aside a little bit of money to put into the station, something would happen," said Chief Steve Hyink of Redondo Beach Fire.

You can vote every day via mobile phone or computer. No personal information is required.

Online voting runs through the end of February.
