24-Year-Old Man Suspected Of Beating, Holding 47-Year-Old Girlfriend Captive

SAN JACINTO (CBS) — A man suspected of repeatedly beating his girlfriend while allegedly holding her captive was behind bars Friday, sheriff's officials said.

Sonny Joseph Mazon, 24, was arrested late Wednesday night and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, false imprisonment and spousal abuse.

He's being held in lieu of $1 million at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

According to Riverside County sheriff's officials, deputies were called to Mazon's home in the 1500 block of Willowcreek Loop about 8 p.m. Wednesday to investigate reports of spousal abuse.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 47-year-old woman with serious injuries which she alleged her boyfriend had inflicted while holding her in his San Jacinto home, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The unidentified woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.

She is expected to recover, according to authorities.
