Riverside Man Gets Restraining Order On Son's 4th Grade Classmate

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — A Riverside County man says he has won a protective order against a fourth-grader who threatened his 10-year-old son with a knife.

Robert Casteel says a student at Mission Bell Elementary School pulled a knife on his son, Christopher, and told him that he would "get you after school," according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

Casteel says he believes Jurupa Unified School District was too lenient on the boy who carried the knife onto campus Wednesday. A deputy assigned to the investigation told Casteel the boy was suspended for five days, but would be back on campus.

"It's unbelievable to me that a kid can bring a knife to school and face very little consequence," Casteel told the Press-Enterprise. "It should be more than a five-day suspension."

School officials say this is the first time a child has been ordered by a court to stay away from a classmate, the Los Angeles Times reports.

A 2 1/2 –inch pocket knife was recovered in the investigation, but the student denied making any threats.

Casteel wants the boy transferred to another school and to receive counseling, the Press-Enterprise reports.
