Police Seek Suspect Who Severely Beat, Robbed Man In Torrance

TORRANCE (CBS) — Authorities released photographs Thursday of a suspect wanted for severely beating a victim, stealing his cell phone and fleeing on a Torrance Transit Bus.

The man was attacked at 9:25 a.m. on Jan. 17 as he walked at Carson Street and Border Avenue, according to Torrance police Sgt. Steven Jenkinson.

The suspect "violently attacked the victim by punching him on the head and face multiple times, and throwing the victim to the ground, where the physical assault continued," Jenkinson said.

Police said the suspect took the victim's cell phone before boarding a city bus. Officers caught up to the bus at 220th Street and Avalon Boulevard in Carson, but the assailant had already exited. Authorities obtained photographs of the man from a bus surveillance camera.

The suspect is described as a black male, 17 to 25 years old, 5'8" to 5'9" with a thin build, short hair and clean shaven face. He was last seen wearing a black zip front jacket with a gray stripe running from shoulder to cuff, light blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Torrance Police Detective Division at (310) 618-5599.
