Police: ID Thief Bought Louis Vuitton Bag Online, Waited At Victim's Home For Delivery

IRVINE (CBS) — An Anaheim woman was behind bars on Thursday after she was arrested on charges related to the alleged unauthorized use of a credit card to purchase a luxury handbag over the Internet.

Judy Nguyen, 28, was taken into custody by Irvine detectives who had determined that a package was due to be delivered Tuesday.

They waited as Nguyen sat in a car in front of the victim's house waiting for the delivery. When the delivery truck arrived, Nguyen took the package and detectives arrested her, said Lt. Julia Engen of the Irvine Police Department.

Nguyen was arrested on charges of grand theft, identity theft and the unauthorized use of a credit card.

The victim did not know there was a problem until she was notified by her credit card company that a $2,700 Internet purchase of a Louis Vuitton bag had been declined.

Detectives worked off the purchase information and learned that at least one purchase had been delivered to the victim's residence and that another package was due Tuesday.

When detectives later served a search warrant at Nguyen's Anaheim residence, they found more than $6,000 worth of high end designer shoes and handbags. They believe there are probably other victims.

They believe Nguyen was reselling the property over the Internet.

Anyone who believes they may be a victim was asked to contact Irvine police Detectives Brian Smith at (949) 724-7267 or by email at bsmith@cityofirvine.org.
