PALMDALE (AP) — Authorities say a fugitive wanted for a 2010 killing in Palmdale is back in the United States following her capture in Belize.
The FBI and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department say 29-year-old Larene Eleanor Austin was taken into custody without incident Wednesday after a tip led investigators to her whereabouts in Belize. She was returned to Houston, Texas, Thursday where she awaits her first court appearance. She’ll be transferred to Los Angeles at a yet-to-be-determined date to face a murder charge.
Authorities say Austin reported the killing of Lanell Barsock on June 16, 2010, to sheriff’s deputies in Palmdale and allegedly tried to frame the victim’s boyfriend for the murder.
After further investigation, the focus of the investigation shifted to Austin as the main suspect in the killing.
