Ready Or Not, You're Getting Facebook 'Timeline'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — You'll soon be forced to use a new profile page design — better known as the Timeline — on Facebook.

In a blog post Tuesday, Facebook announced that Timeline will be brought to all of the social network's 800 million users "over the next few weeks." Upon getting Timeline, users will have seven days to preview what's on their page before it's automatically pushed live.

Facebook introduced Timeline at its F8 conference in September. The update is a dramatic departure from current user profiles, and includes all items a person has shared on the social network since they joined. At his company's F8 conference, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the feature is "a way to tell all the important stories from your life on a single page."

When someone looks at your Timeline, he or she will be able to see summaries of the most important events in your personal history — instead of having to scroll through years of status updates. You're able to feature (or hide) "Stories" — life events, images, and other details — in order to create what you feel is the best representation of your life.

Those particularly eager for the new Facebook could first access Timeline in September 2011 by creating developer accounts.

If you're confused by the new look, Facebook's Introducing Timeline page walks new users through the new features, such as covers, stories and app integration.
