TORRANCE (CBS) — Police are searching for a man who tried to lure a girl into his car as she walked home from school.

The incident happened Monday at about 5:30 p.m., as the 14-year-old girl left South High School. She was walking alone on the north sidewalk of Pacific Coast Highway, when a man in a car asked if she wanted a ride.

The girl feared for her safety and walked away, holding up her phone to show the man she had a cell phone, according to Torrance police.

The man eventually made a U-turn onto PCH and left the area.

The suspect was described as a heavyset white man, between 40 and 45 years old, brown hair peppered with gray, brown eyes, a full brown beard and no glasses. His car was described as a silver, newer 4-door sedan, possibly a Honda.

Anyone with information about the suspect can call Torrance Police Detective Hassoldt at (310) 618-2374.
