Barstow Deputy DA Arrested For Threatening To Murder Her Boss

BARSTOW (CBS) — A deputy district attorney in Barstow was arrested for threatening to murder her boss.

Barstow police say Barbara McClanahan, who is diabetic, threatened to kill Supervising Deputy DA, Julie Peterson by injecting her with a syringe full of insulin.

The two women worked out of the same office in a Barstow County courthouse.

McClanahan reportedly told a co-worker it would be easy to stick Peterson with a needle when the two were alone in an elevator.

The co-worker reports McClanahan also referred to the recent Seal Beach shooting massacre as her "fantasy." McClanahan told investigators her blood sugar was low and she did not remember having said that.

McClanahan told detectives in "a perfect world," she would have a "list of people," and named a person who also works in her building.

Peterson told police McClanahan was a problem employee.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos refused to comment on the case, saying it is a personnel matter.

McClanahan was arrested Jan. 12 at her home in Victorville. She was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned March 8.
