Female Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty To Sex With Inmate

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A forty-two year old Redondo Beach woman faces up to 15 years behind bars for having sexual relations with a male inmate while working as a federal corrections officer.

Renee Noelle Gutierrez pleaded guilty Wednesday in Los Angeles federal court to a felony charge of sexual abuse of a ward, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The offense took place in April 2010 when Gutierrez worked at the Federal Correctional Complex in Lompoc as a prison dorm supervisor responsible for more than 500 inmates.

Gutierrez resigned her position after the illegal sexual conduct was uncovered. She was indicted by a federal grand jury last August.

Gutierrez' sentencing is scheduled for March 26.
