OC Rental Car Firm Backtracks, Offers To Refund Family After Car Sinks Off Balboa Island

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A family from Taiwan vacationing in Orange County whose rental car was rear-ended off the Balboa Island ferry last week may have some good news to write home about.

Fox Rent-A-Car initialy refused to replace the vehicle and told the family of four that they would also forfeit their refund as well after the mishap that also damaged a Mercedes SUV on the ferry.

The Newport Beach Police Department eventually paid to replace the minivan so the family would have transportation during their stay.

But after a slew of negative buzz online, Fox Rent-A-Car reversed its decision and said they were not aware that the family was not at fault in the accident.

The company said it's searching for the family to refund the $85-per-day charge.
