SEAL BEACH (CBS) — More than $400,000 has been collected to help families of those killed in last year’s salon massacre in Seal Beach.
Eight people were killed and a 73-year-old woman was seriously injured in the Oct. 12 shootings at the Salon Meritage.
The alleged gunman, 41-year-old Scott Dekraai, pleaded not guilty to eight counts of murder in November.
Prosecutors say Dekraai, who is being held without bail, was seeking revenge against his wife after he lost a child custody battle.
Roughly 80 percent of the money raised by the public went to help the victims’ families.
People who were trapped in the salon at the time, including witnesses and employees, also received some of the money.
