Investigation Underway After Colton Man Dies In Police Custody

COLTON (CBS) —Sheriff's investigators on Monday sought to determine how a man died while allegedly resisting arrest by Colton police officers.

On Sunday, January 15th, at 5:09 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1100 block of South Mohave Drive, according to the Colton Police Department.

Hutalio Serrano, 43, of Colton, reportedly did not respond to an officer's commands who was not following the officer's commands and actively resisted the officer, police said.

Serrano, who police described as a large man weighing over 260 pounds, was unfazed after officers deployed an electronic control device.

After he was finally subdued by three officers and placed into handcuffs, paramedics were called to the scene after Serrano suffered an undisclosed medical emergency.

Serrano was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:23 pm.

It remains unknown whether Serrano was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Sheriff's investigators said An autopsy will be performed later this week to determine the cause of death.
