Father Of Veteran Suspected In Murders Of 4 Homeless Men Speaks Out

FULLERTON (CBS) — The father of an Iraq war veteran accused of murdering four homeless men in Orange County is speaking out about what may have triggered the brutal killings.

Itzcoatl Ocampo, 23, of Yorba Linda, was arrested Friday after he was seen running from a Carl's Jr. restaurant, where a man had been stabbed to death.

His own father, Refugio Ocampo, has also been homeless since he lost his job as a lawyer. Ocampo says his son returned from Iraq a changed man, expressing disillusionment as he struggled to find his way.

"He started talking about stuff that didn't make any sense to me, like the end of the world. Something big coming, like a big war, a big war," Ocampo said.

Ocampo says his son also showed him a newspaper article about the first homeless victim to warm him about the dangers of living on the streets.

Charges could be filed against Ocampo as early as Monday.
