LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Fresh & Easy is temporarily closing 12 underperforming stores across the Southwest.

The Orange County Register reports the company is closing stores in Fountain Valley and Anaheim within the next two weeks. There will also be closures in Hemet, Baldwin Park and Ontario.

“At this time, there is simply not enough growth in sales and customers at these stores to keep them open. We will close these stores over the coming weeks and we will re-open them when economic and business conditions warrant,” company spokesman Brendan Wonnacott said late Monday.

However, the British-owned company is planning to open another 24 stores across the country.

If they’re closing the one on Lincoln and Western in Anaheim, I’m not surprised. It’s just about the worst grocery store I’ve ever been to in my life. The shelves are disorganized and barely stocked, and the employees are rude to the point of outright hostility. Plus it’s in a shopping center where you can’t make a left turn from Lincoln. Fortunately I’ve been to other Fresh & Easy locations that are much, much better, so I know the chain can do better.

many dont realize, in England – this company is seen as Wallmart is here. People over there HATE this company.

They tried to mask who they are with what they opened up here.

LINCOLN AND WESTERN WAS THE BEST STORE EVER, IT WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE AREA, LOVED THE EMPLOYEES, LOVED THE CONVENIENCE, LOVED THE STORE. I REALLY AM SAD ITS CLOSING AND I SPEAK FOR THE COMMUNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS LOCATION WAS PERFECT, AND I HOPE WHEN THE ECONOMY GETS BETTER, THEY RECONSIDER AND REOPEN THIS STORE LOCATION. WE LOVE OUR FRESH AND EASY IN ANAHEIM!

In the San Gabriel Valley, there are just too many Fresh & Easy stores. They were building these at a fast pace 3-4 years ago at the beginning of the recession. Couldn’t understand it. They were even putting in stores where anchor stores went out of business.

i’m a bit confused with the true agenda of this company. here in Bakersfield, Fresh & Easy built quite a few stores, but only staffed & opened a few a them. the other stores remain empty. also can’t understand why they’re closing a certain number of stores in So Cal, but opening twice as many in other areas down there. wth’s really going on with this company???
