Crews Battle Wildfire Off Highway 243 Near Idyllwild

NEAR IDYLLWILD (CBS) — A fire burning in Riverside County has scorched between five to 20 acres.

The wildfire broke out about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in a drainage area off Highway 243 and Black Mountain Trail, north of Pine Cove, according to CalFire.

Wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are reported in the area.

The fire is not believed to be threatening structures, but fire officials do report that a nearby community has been alerted.

No evacuations have been issued.

Fire crews report that there has been fuel abatement in the area so the brush has been thinned out.

The fire response includes five hand crews, two air tankers, 12 engines, two water tenders and one chopper.

CalFire has been called in to assist the U.S. Forest Service.
