San Jacinto Man, 46, Accused Of Assaulting His Mother With Hammer

SAN JACINTO (CBS) —  A 46-year-old San Jacinto man was behind bars today, accused of assaulting his mother with a hammer during an argument, the sheriff's department said.

The alleged assault took place about 8:30 p.m. Friday at a residence in the 800 block of South Santa Fe Avenue in San Jacinto, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The victim, a woman in her late 60s, later drove to the San Jacinto Police Department to report the assault, according to the sergeant.

Deputies arrested William Keith Wood at his residence for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. Because he also allegedly refused to let her leave the residence, he was also charged with false imprisonment, the sergeant said.

Wood was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility where he was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail records showed.

The victim, who was not named, was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released, the sergeant said.
