Caught On Tape: Underage Beer Buyers Attack Clerk, Good Samaritan

GARDEN GROVE (CBS) — Surveillance video was released Thursday of two robbery suspects who attacked a clerk and a customer when one of the pair was questioned about his age as he tried to buy beer.

The robbery happened late Dec. 28 at a Circle K store in the 12000 block of Knott Street, Garden Grove police Lt. Nightengale said.

One of the men walked into the market, picked up a case of beer and took it to the counter. As the clerk questioned the customer, who appeared younger than 21, another man walked into the store and attacked the clerk, Nightengale said.

When a customer in the store saw the attack and tried to help, the two suspects attacked the customer before running away, he said.

Both suspects are male, about 17 to 20 years old. One has tan skin and dark hair, is about 5 foot 6, weighs about 140 pounds and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black shorts. The other suspect is possibly Latino, about 5 foot 7, weighs about 150 pounds and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Lt. Nightengale said police would especially like to speak to the Good Samaritan, who left before police arrived at the scene, to recognize his effort to help the clerk.

Anyone with information about the robbery and attack can call investigators at (714) 741-5827 or (714) 741-5704.
