Suspect Apprehended After Police In South LA Witness Drive-By Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A suspect was in custody Tuesday night, following a short pursuit by officers who witnessed the drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles.

The suspect allegedly shot a man in his twenties twice in the head as he walked with a friend in front of a home daycare center.

Police patrolling the area heard and saw gunfire coming from a vehicle.

Officers gave chase and the vehicle crashed into another car four blocks away. The driver escaped, but the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, was apprehended.

Police recovered a gun from the man taken into custody.

Witnesses believe the suspects were hunting for a target. Seconds before the victim was shot, the men approached a brother and sister walking down the same street.

The motive for the shooting was not known.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
