Arson Suspected In At Least 13 New Fires In North Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles police say several more cars burned early Saturday morning in suspected arson attacks in the San Fernando Valley, the Associated Press reported.

As of 9 a.m., LA City Fire reports that at least 13 additional fires were reported in the North Hollywood area, damaging cars and some carports.

Police say investigators are looking into whether the new blazes are at all connected with at least 21 intentional fires set Friday.

Meantime, a reward to capture those responsible for setting Friday's fires at carports and apartment complexes in the Hollywood and West Hollywood area is up to $60,000.

"What are you thinking? This is the most dense part of Los Angeles and West Hollywood. We have 20,000 people per square mile living in this area. One fire out of control cost dozens of lives," West Hollywood Mayor John Duran said at a news conference Friday.

Investigators tell CBS2 that they haven't determined whether there is more than one arsonist, but say they have good leads.

"Because we didn't have our fires called in simultaneously, we don't think it's multiple individuals but we're not positive. We haven't ruled that out," said Capt. Jaime Moore of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

"I can't say we have identified a specific person of interest but [detectives] are following every lead that they have been given," Moore added.

Authorities are urging the public to report suspicious activity to police.
